Hello I'm Bill Effinger, your WKLK RADIO CLASSICS Host. Radio historians assert that radio broadcasting began in 1920. It was very quickly that Radio became a product of the mass market.
Between 1923 and 1930, 60 percent of American families purchased radios. Families gathered around their radios for night-time entertainment. By 1922, 600 radio stations had sprung up around the United States. Station owners then saw the need to diversify their programming.
Stations began broadcasting things like popular music, classical music, sporting events, lectures, newscasts, weather reports, market updates, comedy and fictional stories, also known as the theater of the mind.
It is all of this old programming that is called Old World Radio or Classic Radio. From life's experiences, every person creates a slightly different mind picture. It is also this personalization that makes the story more exact and self-involving. I hope you'll enjoy this wonderful form of entertainment with me on WKLK 1230 AM.
